DESCRIPTION
002, also known as “The Vitruvian Man”, is an animated and fully articulated android measuring 2 m in height, with the appearance of an adult male man, composed of wood and a cream-colored leather layer that covers almost his entire body. The anomaly’s face is detailed, featuring a short beard, dark hair, and glass eyes fixed forward with a permanently neutral expression. Its torso possesses open panels that expose an unorthodox internal mechanism composed of rods, cavities, and gears. No identifiable biological organs exist within 002 and on its back there is a label reading “For my dear daughter Kelly”. Its limbs are segmented with multiple cavities of unknown purpose. The fingers of 002 contain a series of tools that can be accessed by unscrewing the fingertip as if they were nuts: a steel needle in the thumbs, a scalpel in the index fingers, fabric scissors in the middle fingers, a brush in the ring fingers, and a small hammer in the pinkies. The tools appear to regenerate from wear when the cover is screwed back on, a process that occurs without external intervention despite no sufficient internal storage having been observed to physically house the damaged pieces and replacements. 002 is intelligent and demonstrates clear knowledge in several arts such as painting or poetry and other activities such as sewing and carpentry. It produces objects of notably superior quality than expected for a mechanism without visible precision sensors; none of the pieces present relevant structural defects and several have demonstrated full functionality despite not following conventional assembly methods.
It frequently requests working materials such as fabric, wood, paper or paint and on multiple occasions has attempted to exchange its creations for permission to leave, showing basic understanding of negotiation. When denied, its behavior does not become aggressive, but it tends to remain inactive for long periods and repeatedly write the name “Kelly”. It is obsessed with escaping and returning with a woman it calls “Kelly”, possibly its owner, whose whereabouts and the reason why she is not with 002 are unknown. The anomaly appears to react emotionally to artistic representations of female human figures, stopping its activities to observe them for prolonged periods and asking personnel if “she was here” without providing additional information. The Vitruvian Man claims to feel pain despite its apparent absence of a nervous system or any kind of mechanical system that would allow it to do so. It is capable of speaking and writing in several languages fluently including English, Japanese, German, Spanish, French, and Portuguese. Tests conducted indicate the anomaly does not require an identifiable energy source to remain active and stays functional even after long periods of absolute inactivity. During these periods it may remain completely motionless for hours or days, resuming movement only when it perceives nearby human presence or clear auditory stimuli. 002 usually displays cooperative behavior with personnel, especially with those who regularly participate in interaction sessions.
